7 Steps

We Have The Power To Prevent Diabetes

Science has proven that you can prevent Type 2 diabetes by making healthy food choices and engaging in regular exercise

Step 1: Move More

Walking as little as 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week can start on the path to a healthier life. You can even try dancing, swimming, bike riding, or any other activity that you enjoy and that gets you moving.

Step 2: Eat Healthy

Making healthy food choices is important in preventing diabetes. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables are a great way to reduce calories while nourishing your body. Try to eat 5-9 servings of fresh produce each day.

Step 3: Take Off Some Weight

By losing as little as 10 pounds, you can reduce your chances of getting diabetes. If your following the first two steps, then you are already on your way.

Step 4: Set Goals You Can Meet

Start by making small changes. If your not active, then try walking for 15 minutes a day. Then gradually increase until you are at your goal. Or maybe try cutting just 100 calories from your diet, then slowly reduce more until you make a habit out of healthy food choice.

Step 5: Record Your Progress

Keeping a journal of what you eat each day and how active you are is one of the best ways to lose weight and keep it off. Just write down everything you eat in a day and keep track of how long you participate in activities that get you moving.

Step 6: Get Help

You don’t have to do this alone. Ask your friends or family members to help out. You can eat healthier together and spend time together walking, playing, and being active.

Step 7: Keep At It

Be consistent with your new healthy habits. Make small changes at first, but stick with it. If you get off track, just start again and keep at it.
